POPIA gives you specific rights in relation to your personal information. GEMIS Technical Academy is committed to processing all data requests promptly and in accordance with the Act.
You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you — including what categories of data, why it is held, and with whom it has been shared.
If the personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, you may request that it be corrected or updated.
You may request deletion of your personal information where there is no lawful basis for us to continue holding it, or where you withdraw consent previously given.
Please note: Certain information may be retained where there is a lawful basis to do so — for example, financial records required by SARS, or participant records required to verify certificate issuance. Where we cannot delete information, we will explain why in our response.
We collect only the personal information necessary to deliver our services. The following categories describe what we may hold, depending on your relationship with us.
Name, email address, cell number, employer details, programme completion records, voucher purchase history, certificate issuance records.
School name, contact name and role, email, phone number, province, proforma invoice history, session booking records.

Select the type of request below. We will verify your identity before processing any request — a member of the team will contact you to confirm.
Under POPIA Section 23, you have the right to know whether we hold personal information about you and, if so, to receive a description of that information and the purposes for which it is held.
We will respond within 30 days of verifying your identity. Where a request is complex or involves large volumes of data, we may extend this by a further 30 days — we will notify you if this applies.
Your request will be acknowledged by email within 2 business days. We will then verify your identity before compiling and sharing your information.
Under POPIA Section 24, you may request that we correct or update personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or obtained unlawfully.
We will respond within 15 business days of verifying your identity. Where a correction is straightforward, it may be completed sooner.
Please be as specific as possible about what information you believe is incorrect and what the correct information should be.
Under POPIA Section 24, you may request deletion of your personal information where we no longer have a lawful basis to hold it, or where you withdraw consent previously given.
Important: We may not be able to delete all information immediately. Certain records — such as financial transaction records required by SARS, or certificate issuance records — may need to be retained for a lawful period. Where we cannot delete, we will explain clearly and retain only what is legally required.
We will respond within 15 business days of verifying your identity, confirming what has been deleted and what, if anything, has been retained and why.
